Abstract

Music has a communicative power in human society that transcends language. This is particularly true for the nurturer (mother) and child, or for children when they are together, for if music is parcel to their development, so also will there be a sense of social responsibility as well as a rich emotional life. In today's competitive society where there has been a weakening of societal bonds such as the nuclear family, there has also been a diminishing of the bonds between people. One worries about the emotional education of our children. This small paper looks at the origins of music, and discusses the special characteristics of music in nourishing communication, as well as its role as a medium of enriching human interaction.
