Abstract: | In this study, we analyze musical preferences in terms of differences of informational acceptances in media access and communicational patterns in everyday life. Using data from the research project of use and consuption of imformational media in 23 high school in Nagasaki, we focus on cultural cleavages in high school students' acceptance of musical information, taking into account both individual-level and social-level influences. Our study shows that female students from pop and major rock genres are more likely to get information from mass media. Additionally, male students from R&B and HIP HOP genres get information from face to face communication and communal media more often for musical purposes than students from other musical genres. Testing simultaneously individual and social characteristic shows that a communicational style in everyday life can be separated into compositional and contextual effects. |
